Eternal Light, Friday March 30th
As part of the Doemel Concert Series and the Good Friday Community Worship Service, The Presbyterian Church of Okemos presents English composer Howard Goodall’s “Eternal Light: A Requiem” on Good Friday, March 30, 7:00-8:00 p.m. Written in 2008 to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of World War One, the composer intended the work “to provide solace to the grieving, reflecting on the words of the Latin Mass by juxtaposing them with poems in English… This, like Brahms’, is a Requiem for the living, addressing their suffering and endurance, a Requiem focusing on the consequences of interrupted lives.” (Howard Goodall, June 2008)
The Chancel Choir will be accompanied by strings, harp, piano, and organ, and conducted by Shawn Cody Miller, DMA Choral Conducting 2018. Reflecting on the process, Cody notes: “This work has been a wonderful experience for the choir and myself. Many members of the choir, including myself, lost someone since we started these rehearsals, and this work provided comfort to many of us in our time of grief.”
Admission to the event is free.
