On Friday, March 15 we celebrated the launch of Dr. Emily Conroy-Krutz’ book Missionary Diplomacy: Religion and the Nineteenth-Century American Foreign Relations. Emily shared background and readings from the book which explores the longstanding influence of evangelical missions on the shape of American foreign relations. From the 1810s through the 1920s, Protestant missionaries positioned themselves as key experts in the development of American relations in Asia, Africa, the Pacific, and the Middle East. Books were available for purchase.
